In response to the global pandemic, many institutions have considered alternative to physical classrooms so as to reduce the risk of spreading the virus and putting students and teachers at risk. But most third world countries are not yet familiar with the process as technology and usage is not as advanced as most developed countries and few online courses are limited to few tertiary institutions.

Before the rise of COVID-19, most universities in developed countries already run online courses and many students need not leave their home country before getting to study in the country of their choice.  This is contrary to what under developed countries are experiencing as students from these countries have a handful of immigrants seeking for better opportunities overseas.

This is the time for these countries to improve on technology for educational purposes. For instance, 54% of Nigerians have access to Internet and roughly 60% have an internet enabled mobile devices. Public schools in few states in Nigeria started electronic classes through television and radio to teach. This does not serve as an effective form of teaching as students are limited from the classroom experience and feedback system through assignments and assessments.

Solutions are beginning to spring up as governments seek an alternative to in-class learning. This might be the development Africa is waiting for, many students will be forced to stay back in their home country as soon as the online universities are available and it comes with its own benefits:

Virtual classroom is the solution that will bring a turn around to the educational system in Africa. It is believed that people will be to afford quality education as administrative cost will be reviewed and human capital with be outsourced to artificial intelligence.
